Distinguishing Between Suicidality and Mental Illness

This paper utilizes various different cultural and historical contexts to investigate the modern Western perception of relationship between mental illness suicidality. The author first breaks down nuances assumptions inherent “mental illness” concept, then uses these complexities demonstrate that conceptions suicidality are unjustifiably narrow. Through examination Japanese, Chinese, Indigenous, other worldviews, demonstrates plethora interpretations human suicidality, regards in light previously established fluid idea illness. concludes is not or automatic evidence illness, but rather, a nuanced phenomenon can be indicative variety states. As result, encourages stronger basis lived experience for prevention measures.
